Indoor/outdoor

Bring some greenery inside

Beautifully warm days are finally on their way and you’re probably eager to welcome them (as you should), but what if, like the majority of city-dwellers, you don’t have any outdoor space? Never fear, lavieestdesign.com is here to bring you some tips to let your apartment join in the springtime fun.

Invite your outdoor furniture inside

Jump on-board the indoor/outdoor trend! Outdoor furniture doesn’t leave anything to be desired when compared to its indoor counterparts – it’s carefully designed (often with a wink to the atmosphere of public gardens), well finished, and made using quality materials such as cement, stained wood or powder-coated steel.

Of course, we’re not suggesting you turn your cosy, well-designed living room into an indoor picnic with a complete set of table and chairs, but rather to integrate a few “secondary” pieces in harmony with the rest of your room.

For example, a pair of chairs in white metal with soft, rounded lines that work easily with their light oak counterparts to create a fresh and natural combination. A little folding table that can be used as an occasional table on which to perch your summer reading and a plant, or even a couple of chic concrete stools on either side of your sofa – very urban and raw. What about a teak or metallic occasional chair adorned with cushions in seasonal colours, or even a chaise longue for relaxing next to a window.

Bring some greenery inside

We’re all crazy about vases but even more so when they’re accumulated together – at the centre of the table, on a side table, or along a buffet. When they multiply, they can welcome even more varied, spontaneous and colourful springtime flowers, just like in nature. What’s the trick to keeping flowers alive for a long time? Change the water regularly and cut the bottom of the stems.

Cut flowers in vases are great, but living potted plants are even better! Place them close to your windows and skylights, and punctuate your interior and with little corners of greenery so you can tend your garden in your kitchen or even from your sofa. Get into it! Watering cans, spray bottles, and planters have never been as chic as they are now. Planters are available in a wide choice of materials including terracotta, metal or concrete. Choose your favourite or mix all three together for a cool, raw look.

If you don’t have a green thumb, know that some of the artificial flowers available now are so beautiful, you won’t have to be ashamed about them, and what’s more, they’ll survive your gardening skills all year round.
