Everybody OUTSIDE!

A source of pleasure and well-being, gardens are a real asset to your home; think about it as an additional and very special living space far from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whatever your style, it's time to get your outdoor space into shape for the summer. Follow our advice - or not!

Entertaining in the garden

Orderly or bohemian? French or English style? Gardens are an extension of your home so why not have it reflect your personality? And just like your home, it's nice to dedicate a well-designed area for entertaining in your garden where you can spend time with guests without running in and out of the kitchen all night! This is also true (perhaps even more so!) for small outdoor spaces such as handkerchief gardens, courtyards or a simple patio. Just because you only have a small space doesn't mean you can't entertain friends al fresco. Why not design a BBQ area like an open-plan kitchen, meaning you can spend time with friends instead of slaving over a hot stove away from all the fun?

Choose beautiful functional furniture and accessories, which will blend into the landscape.

Lazing
in the garden

Napping is a serious business! So before you close your eyes, take the time to design the ultimate napping zone. Even if you are a sun worshipper, make sure you create a shady area - even if it's only for keeping your bottle of water cold (and to stop your Bluetooth speaker from overheating).

The goal is simple: to have everything to hand so you don't have to get up. You could simply place a small side table next to your deckchair in the shade, which you can use for (in addition to your bottle of water and the Bluetooth speaker) your books and magazines and of course the all-important sun cream.  Don't forget extra cushions for your back and head; you could even add a foot rest to guarantee the optimal napping position (also know as lying down!).

And if you're not afraid of heights, why not string up a hammock?

Well-being
in the garden

To empty your mind and let go of worldly concerns, why not use your garden to meditate, practice yoga (maybe the tree pose!) or simply get your hands dirty! Gardening is the ultimate stress buster, which may explain why it is so popular in our complex world affected by the economic crisis - it's also good for the environment! So don't hesitate to get in tune with nature and cultivate your well-being at the same time as your roses even if you only have a balcony, patio or window sill.

You don't need to be an expert to try your hand at gardening, green fingers require patience and humility. But don't worry there's loads of great advice out there (garden centres, blogs, etc.) to get you started. You'll also need a few tools. In addition to be being practical, garden tools can be beautiful so don't hide them away - let them form part of your garden decor. I bet if we'd told you a trowel or a hoe could be as beautiful as a Moleskine notebook, you wouldn't have believed us?

Beautiful, great for entertaining, restful for the body and soul, this summer make the garden the centre of your home!
