Black is... well, the new black

A colour for some and a non-colour for others; timeless black is actually a combination of multiple colours. Fashion has always loved black (the little black number is a key item in any wardrobe), in architecture black gives structure to volumes and lines, and in painting it has the power to sculpt light. In interior decoration, we have always experimented with black, what varies is its use: graphic, flat, in touches or the complete look (a riskier approach). Black does not darken but structures (NB: large spaces can take large quantities of black but smaller spaces will look even smaller). Try painting one wall black and adding lots of picture frames, a splash of colour or a bold graphic element. Looking for a little sophistication? Treat yourself to a beautiful design piece like a lacquered sideboard, which would look great in a living room, just as a black dining room set adds elegance and simplicity. In smaller spaces use black in lower areas: a sofa, a console table, a low cabinet or coffee table to achieve a chic and sophisticated look. In terms of accessories, uses for black are almost limitless. From dinnerware, to decor, textiles and table art, black is always on trend. Why not try using elegant, mysterious and sophisticated black in your decor?
